Context
BeachBop helps fossil hunters on the East and Gulf Coasts identify the shark teeth they find, using the phone camera and models that run entirely on the device.
What I built
- Real-time object detection with on-device Core ML (YOLOv2 and Create ML): live camera detection with bounding boxes, audio and haptic feedback, and configurable thresholds.
- State-specific identification: 18 classifiers trained on more than 100,000 labeled images covering the East and Gulf Coasts, predicting genus and species with a user override workflow.
- LiDAR measurement with ARKit and RealityKit, sizing a tooth through plane detection and scene reconstruction.
- A searchable gallery of more than 2,500 curated photos across 83 species and genera, with caching, filtering, and subscription-gated access.
- In-app AI chat with per-user quotas, StoreKit subscriptions, and Firebase Analytics.
